The Greater Saphenous Veins

The Greater Saphenous Veins are the main shallow veins in the leg.
The Long Saphenous Vein begins in the inner part of the leg, from the foot to the crotch area connecting to the crotch’s pamoral vein.
The Short Saphenous Vein begins in the back side of the thigh connecting to the poplital vein behind the knee.

Most venous pathologies are caused due to valve insufficiency in the connecting area. As a result of the damage in the valves, The Greater Saphenous Veins expand thus creating varicose veins or expanded veins.
